Dr Nazia Aziz

Registered Psychologist


Dr. Nazia Aziz is a registered psychologist and an educational and developmental psychologist. She is also a certified bilingual school psychologist in New York City, U.S.A. She is a highly qualified and experienced psychologist with an appreciation and understanding of the highly variable profiles of autism in both young children and the adult population. Dr. Aziz earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Psychology from St. John’s University in New York City. She also received her Master’s and Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in School Psychology from St. John’s University with a specialization in the assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse populations. 

Dr. Aziz completed her pre-doctoral internship (accredited by the American Psychological Association) at the New York State Institute of Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities. During this internship, she learned how to better identify infants at risk for developmental disabilities, including autism. She worked on research projects that followed premature infants in a level 3 neonatal intensive care unit, focusing on a broad range of issues related to early development of brain and behaviour. She completed her post-doctoral residency through the New York City Department of Education focusing mostly on developmental and autism assessments for the New York State Early Intervention Program.

Dr. Aziz has engaged in clinical practice as a full time Consultant Clinical Psychologist at one of Pakistan’s most prestigious hospitals. In that setting, she did numerous psycho-educational and autism assessments for an affiliate of the United Nations. Dr. Aziz has provided assessment reports to the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection, Immigration New Zealand, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada. In Adelaide, Dr. Aziz has worked with the Department of Communities and Social Inclusion and is currently employed by the Department for Education and Child Development. She has been recognised and endorsed by Autism SA. Dr. Aziz is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Dr Aziz is also highly effective in achieving outcomes, utilising a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), meditation, guided visualisation, journaling, mindfulness practices and other techniques to help clients explore their spiritual selves and to facilitate healing and growth. She also uses hypnosis to help clients with stress reduction, weight loss, quit smoking and performance enhancement.  Dr. Aziz also provides sessions on Sufi teachings and practices. A devoted follower of Sufism herself, she combines the teachings of Sufism and Psychology, to facilitate spiritual awakening and finding the purpose of life.
